Finally, an easy year to write about.
I didn't talk with people much after the Eric vote up until the challenge. It seems to me that most of Bajau is taking a break from the AIM side of things. It's been exhausting having to go to so many votes in a row, and I can't blame them (or myself) for backing off a bit.
When the challenge rolled around, it was beginning to look like I would succumb to bad challenge luck once again. For challenges, I typically come to my school's computer lab to compete because of their more reliable connection. I logged on to a school computer about 15 minutes before go time and things were going smoothly. I had begun to attempt solving the game when the entire building's connection suddenly vanished. Right as the challenge was scheduled to begin. I panicked, knowing that if I didn't attend this challenge that I would be so, so, so screwed.
I raced back home to use my lsee reliable connection. No sooner than when I log on, my girlfriend asks me to go to the store with her. She just doesn't get the whole Survivor thing. I told her that I wouldn't be going, but she countered by telling me that my housemate, who lives in the room next to me, was about to get it on with her should-be-but-isn't-officially boyfriend. And there was zero chance of me doing this challenge with jungle noises coming from the next room. So I relocated again.
I raced back to my school (10 minutes late now?) and returned to the computer lab I always rely on. No dice. I raced to another computer lab to try logging on to AIM express. The connection was dead there too, just about as dead as I was going to be. Right about as I was going to give up, the connection sprung back to life, and I logged on as quickly as I could. I'd only incurred one point worth of penalties to that point, but I was more worried about the damage to Bajau's organization as well as my image. I panicked through the first round as my heart rate began to lower to an acceptable pace.
